Deaf Music Camp Director, Rosa Lee Timm, answers the most common questions regarding Deaf Music Camp. For more information about Deaf Music Camp, please go to http://deafmusiccamp.com

Video summary:

Q: Can hard of hearing individuals who don't know sign language be eligible for the camp?

A: Yes, although, all of our sessions will be taught in ASL. We do not have an interpreter available during the sessions. On the other hand, all of our core instructors can speak english so its possible that the student may get some extra time with instructors to get caught up with the program.

Q: Where is it?

A: Brooklyn, Mich. Why? Because the campsite is a beautiful place and the owner of the camp site gives deaf and hard of hearing programs priority for space rental. Also, it is about an hour away from where D-PAN is located. We'd be able to use their resources as well. Lastly, its in the mid-west. Folks from west/east won't have to travel far to get there.

Q: What if a student is interested all of the four tracks? Can s/he pick all of them or must s/he pick one?

A: For the audition video, the student artist will need to pick one that s/he is most confident about. During the camp, all students will have an opportunity to explore other tracks.

Q: Can Coda attend?

A: Unfortunately, no. This camp is tailored for the deaf and hard of hearing students however, we'll consider a different program separated from DMC the following year.

Q: Is there a discount for airfares?

A: Yes, I am working with a deaf travel agency on this. More information should be made available this upcoming spring.

Q: Is there any volunteer positions or job openings that I can apply for the camp?

A: All of our positions have been filled however, we will let you know if we need volunteers sometimes during the spring.

Q: What if my students aren't able to afford the camp?

A: I am currently seeking grants/sponsors to help defray students' tuition and hope to get some money before March 15th however, there are some ways that your students can find funding.

1. Contact local Lion's Club and ask for funding.
2. Contact your school district. Sometimes they can fund the camp as part of your student's IEP.
3. Host a fundraiser
4. Ask your family and friends for donations
5. Provide a show of your own and sell tickets
