UPDATE: YOU CAN SEE CONCERT FOOTAGE OF THIS SONG ELSEWHERE ON YOUTUBE.

From one of the few bootlegs I own, a performance from LZ's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Drastic re-arrangement of this classic song. Page reins in the drums and cranks up the chainsaw guitar. His tone is so aggressive and forward-mixed that Young sounds like he's holding on by his fingernails, to keep from being blown off the stage. And that's Robert Plant on the third guitar! The pictures are sleeve scans of the boot; sorry to have no actual concert footage for you. Be sure to see the clip from the same event featuring Joe Perry and Steven Tyler, elsewhere on YouTube. And thanks for watching and reading.

Personnel: Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, Michael Lee, and Neil Young, Waldorf Hotel, January 1995

  • sucks you dont have a good link to footage id like to see that

  • @rdphippo There was none when I first posted this. Now there is. Try here: watch?v=_wCvUynhYRY Or just search led zeppelin neil young levee in the search box.

  • thank you for posting this. to the dopes who are dissing this piece: go back to your rooms and re-cue Jonas Bros. to anyone who knows anything about "rock 'n roll", the combo of plant, page and neil has produced a timeless raw, unfiltered, bone-crunching take on a classic. fyi - the drummer and bass are tight and propulsive. this is a gem.

  • Glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to search YT for videos of the actual performance; I only had this audio track to post.

  • this is from a long time ago dude lol

  • Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I know it's old, but at the time I posted this, it wasn't on YT at all. There are some clips of the video performance now up here and there.

  • Yes, as a matter of fact he did record the song 'Downtown' after his on stage experience with Page. This excerpt was taken from the book 'Shakey':

"He(Hendrix)and Jimmy Page are favorites of mine. When I was playing with Page, it filled the hole that Stills used to -more than filled it, it overflowed. He's so liquid, so at ease with his guitar-a natural sense of time. I'm a hack compared to him. He can really play."

I would say the key word in the quote was "liquid", relating to Downtown.

  • I love this version great artists jammin'

  • @WangXiaojun1974 This is a great live performance.

  • @noob64000 Rubbish

  • how can they be wrong on their own song? maybe it's not identical to the studio version, just a different arrangement. You didn't hear anybody say Clapton played Layla wrong when he played it on MTV Unplugged.
