***Court Update***
Well we finally had our court date some 1o months later. All charges on the failure to license and vaccinate the rescue dogs were dropped by the prosecuter. The plea bargin came down to my own personal 10 dogs in question (actually 5 as 5 had either been placed or had passed away as senior dogs.) Why I am writing this is in part an FYI to others. I often took my dogs to the rabies clinics either hosted by the Stanton SPCA or Delaware Humane Assoc. The problem is...they almost always have volunteers helping fill out the rabies slips. 99 % of the time they make major errors. The Stanton SPCA volunteers seem to think rabies vaccine expire on 12/31 instead of either 1 yr or 3 yrs from the date given(depending on dog's age and prior vaccine history) The DHA's volunteers don't seem to understand that a dog having proof of prior vaccination is to get a 3 yr shot. So this ended up being my charges. I had several dogs vaccinated at DHA clinic in 06 the one at the Glasgow park in April I believe. I specifically made it a point to clarify my dogs with proof of prior vaccination would be getting a three yr slip. I was told yes. I had proof of prior vaccinations on all my dogs over 2 yrs of age. Gave all the info to the volunteer filling out the slips and proceeded to take dogs from my vehicle to the vaccination table. Once finished we went back to the vehicle and quickly looked over the slips..I found about 6 or so with errors..took them back over to the table and the volunteer corrected them (or so I thought)all my rabies slip were seized by kent County SPCA when the rescues were seized. Even though not all of those rabies slips were current as some dogs had been rehomed or passed away through the years I still had their slips in my folder. I was initially charged with all the slips in my folder and was told an officer would come back out to actually match slips up with dogs I currently had..that never did happen. Nobody ever came back out to straighten out paperwork. When we went to court and the charges on the rescues were dropped in lieu of pleading guilty to the 10 rabies slips they claimed I changed the expiration date on(I didn't change anything the volunteer for DHA clinic did but not correctly) I agreed to take the 10 charges basically to get this over with. I was given the min. fine of 25.00 per count which to me seemed worth it to be done. Now for the FYI..I didn't make sure that when my slips were corrected that the carbon copies were also corrected and I did not have them correct the 1 yr box to a 3 yr box. The dogs in question were all well over 2 yrs old and had prior vaccinations. I still have some of their old slips. I was in a hurry and didn't fully follow through ( my own fault) as with the SPCA slips..there were 4 or so of them that had expired in 06. I no longer had those dogs and if you don't have the dogs anymore it's a little hard to get them reboostered. Not sure how the KCSPCA figures I should have been able to do that but they did. Had someone come out and went over the dogs living at my home with the slips they had then they would have known which ones were not chargeable, but they never did. They also had and still have all my original slips which they have had for 10 months now. Why they need to keep my originals is beyond me. As for the rescues..many were euthanized some where supposedly placed. I have had several KCSPCA employees come to me and tell me how wrong they were for taking them etc. I was even sent horrific pictures taken by an employee of how they were being kept. These photo's are extremely graphic of the living conditions. I debated on whether I would eventually posts these pictures for everyone to see how shameful this so called shelter should be, now that the court case is over. I keep them at work on my desk and everyday ask myself should they be exposed or not. I think right now I am just going to leave it alone. It's over now and even though posting these pics may give me temporary satifaction they won't change what happened.
This is our story about some rescues we took in and what happened to us and them for helping them. Thanks for watching. Please post your comments as we will need as many in support as possible to take to court. Also we are in need of donations to help pay legal fee's and possible fines if they are not dropped. If your able to send even a couple dollars..it will help and be very much appreciated. You can it through www.paypal.com to TakinChances@aol.com Thank so much for your support!!
If I knew this was going on I would have come down there and adopted all the dogs to my friends, then for step 2, give them all back to you in wich, to get the dogs back to the loving and caring home, such as yours.

Thanks for the nice comment....actually we had been working on several options for the dogs and the day before they came in I had been in touch with North Shore Animal League who was willing to help us out with as many as we wanted to send them..they were going to come down and get some on Monday but the SPCA seized them on the Friday before..North Shore even called KCSPCA and offered to still take them all and KCSPCA refused their assistance.

It was...there could have been better alternatives..KCSPCA put many of them to sleep..claimed they had sarcoptic mange and they didn't want to take the time/money or energy to treat them so they euthanized all the ones they thought had mange plus they euthanized a couple senior dogs in the group. I still have to go to court on the 28th of this month. The rabies violation charge is soo ridiculous. Two more days and they would have all benn innoculated.

We already treated them for internal and external parasites..had them heart worm tested and updated their distemper and bordatella vaccinations..rabies shots were the only ones we were having a little difficulty with as we were trying to find a vet who would come to the house an innoculate them at minimal cost..North Shore Animal was helping us with that also.

We had them just 10 days when they took them..you can obviously see how much we did for them in that short time..look at the puppies when they first arrived..you could see all their bones..in 10 days they put on weight..were free from parasites and began to trust us..they were laying with toys for the first time in their life only to have it all taken away from them..
