Edward "Skip" Stritter '68 is chairman of VillageTech Solutions, a nonprofit that provides energy and access for people in rural Nepal. One project is constructing wire bridges over deep river canyons. Thayer students assist with the construction, and in this video Master of Engineering Management (M.E.M.) candidate David Drennan and Laura MacGregor '08 try out a bridge.

The down side is that it may require skilled maintenance people to check and repair the gears every so often. Local people may not be able to do that.
