LA Police Arrest Man Over Dozens Of Fires

Los Angeles police have arrested a man who is suspected of setting more than 50 fires in and around Hollywood.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said that Harry Burkhart, 24, was arrested and booked for investigation of arson of an inhabited dwelling. He is being held without bail.
According to the Los Angeles Times, federal officials gave police information that the man was a potential "person of interest" before his arrest.
Mr Villaraigosa said that 52 fires had been started since last Friday, causing around $3m (£2m) in damage.It is claimed Burkhart set 11 fires between midnight and the time the man was arrested at about 3am on Sunset Boulevard on Monday.
Police were hunting a suspected serial arsonist after more than 40 cars in and around the West Hollywood area were set on fire within several days.
At an earlier media conference Los Angeles fire department Captain Jaime Moore said the suspect was stopped because he looked like a man seen on video at the scene of several fires.
Police had released the video of the suspect on Sunday night near a blaze.
Video of the suspect showed a portly man with his hair in a ponytail, which led local media outlets to dub him "Meat Loaf-Seagal" - merging the looks of rock singer Meat Loaf with the ponytail of martial arts film star Steven Seagal.Most of the fires were set in cars that parked in carports, Capt Moore said.
Burkhart was reportedly using a van with number plates indicating it was from British Columbia in Canada.
Police allegedly found some charcoal and accelerants inside the vehicle.
LA police had earlier arrested Samuel Arrington, 22, over several unrelated fires.
