In this video I review a few handy tools I've been using to capture some cool angles while riding the motorcycle. The Manfrotto super clamp and heavy duty flex arm. Manfrotto didn't have motorcycles in mind when they designed this gear, but it can work pretty good. The clamp is solid and has rubber boots so it won't scratch up your bike when you tighten it down. The flex arm is nice because it can become any shape your heart desires. One problem with the flex arm however is it can get a little wobble going on while riding. Because of the vibration of the engine, bumpy road, or even the air pushing against it. It's only a very small wobble, but the reason this is a problem is because most cameras these days have CMOS sensors in them. These sensors scan each frame from top to bottom. It happens very quickly of course, but those small vibrations are what cause your shots to look like jelly. It's an effect called "rolling shutter" and it's a bad thing. I've got some great shots with this device. I've also had some great shots ruined because of the dreaded rolling shutter. So I like it, and I don't like it. Take that for whatever you think it's worth.

You might want to look into the magic arm. I think it's shorter and should be a bit more stable than the Flex Arm which will help fight rolling shutter.

  • Is there much difference between this and the weaker MA237 (non-HD model)? Why would I need the heavy duty version? I have the Drift Stealth cam too. Thanks

  • @simon44 I've never used the the other version. But I'd guess you want it to be as strong as possible, so it wobbles around as little as possible.

  • By the way, I'm not sure if it's possible but maybe you could mount a Manfrotto 143BKT camera bracket at the free end to solve the camera rotation inconvenience.

  • @caesareor Yeah you probably could, but I think you want as little weight out there at the end of the arm as possible.

  • Cool! I was looking at the Magic Arm too but this is better (not to mention cheaper). Now if you'll excuse me, I have some online shopping to do. ;)

    Cheers!!

  • @caesareor And if you use those links in the description I get a small commission from the sale. Thanks!

  • use gopro :))

  • @halfthrottle True. I'm just thinking if I can get away without paying the extra 50% for the HD model and will I use it enough. Anyways thanks.

  • @caesareor There is links to all this stuff in the video description. But just be aware that the arm can wobble a bit, which can cause rolling shutter in your camera. I talk about it more in the description.

  • @atokarchik The aftermarket speedo was on there when I bought the bike. It's broken too. It displays mph, but the odo doesn't work. I was going to take it off and just use the stock stuff until I noticed my bike doesn't have a speedo cable on the bike. So I just ride and don't worry about it.
