On Monday, July 18, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) hosted its first Surgical Health Care Quality Forum in Chicago in partnership with Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and several Chicago health care leaders, including Dr. Mark Chassin, president of The Joint Commission, to discuss quality improvement programs needed in our nation's hospitals to reduce preventable hospital readmissions, prevent medical errors, improve patient outcomes and reduce costs. This forum kicked-off the ACS Inspiring Quality initiative, a national effort to encourage collaboration among health care leaders across the country to share best practices on quality programs that are proven to improve outcomes and add value to our health care system.
