The Libyan regime has launched a new assault on the opposition amidst growing international pressure. Forces loyal to Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi tried to retake two rebel-controlled towns overnight, but both attacks appear to have been repelled. Speaking to Western journalists, Gaddafi said that he is loved by all his people and has denied there have been any protests. Democracy Now! speaks to Tareq, a Libyan American just back from Libya after spending a week with his family. He discusses the situation in the capital Tripoli.

There is nothing in Bosnia except for closed salt mines waiting to be filled up with nuclear waste. Afghanistan is unexplored, but if there is a chance for coal mine it will be mined. The reason behind grab of oil rich countries is in preventing China to get the oil cheap. Check that on the map. Look at it as CO2 emission suppression method.
Gaddafi isn't a fool, except for his own amusement. It's in Israels best interest for Gaddafi to stay in power. US military knows that. btw I'm not form US.

This oil nonsense is so absurd. Do you think there is oil in Bosnia or Afghanistan? The US gets most of its oil from Canada, Mexico, Venezuela. Who ever is in charge will sell oil at OPEC prices.
The US is not going to intervene, since the public opinion has shifted and now they care about UN. The rebells will get killed and Libya will change its foreign policy since the west is not a reliable partner (obsession with human rights, democracy..)
You are in demographic, political, military decline

Free flow of OIL is much more important for Secretary of State than freedom of one small African country. There is enough crude on Libyan soil to power US war machine for next 40 years. Gaddafi knows that. Does anyone remember burning oilfields in Iraq?
