Jonathan does a little capricci blitzio "Impromptus Bastardus" on an acoustic GuitarViol. No catchy commercial melodies or dancing. Just a mini shred etude for no good reason but the guilty bliss of it.

  • so when are we going to see the first 7 string model? or 12 string?

  • the first Seven string model? Check out the French Movie "Tous les Matins Du Monde" ..

Seriously, It may happen. If some one orders one, I'll build it if it is acoustic. The electric model is a bit more complex.

  • well, if i wasn't still in highschool trying afford college and stuff, i would probably try to order one!

i had forgotten all about all of your midi stuff for the 6 string, that definitely would make it a little more complicated.

do you think it might need a longer scale length so that low B isn't floppy?

  • Actually, most of my acoustics are tuned to B (the lower six strings of a 7 set tuned to Guitar intervals). The one in this particular vid was tuned to C#. When adding more strings, the bow angle window decreases. I like playing with six for that reason. If tuned to B, transposing is easy. If playing in the key of E, "think" in A.

  • oh, i see. i didn't see anything about this on your website, but do the guitarviol's have a soundpost and bassbar like in a violin too?

  • Yes. I have repaired Violins and Cellos for years. The GuitarViol's construction & structure is pretty much like a violin in essentials.

  • @conor1148 Did anything come of this idea? If not, do a search for "Viola da Gamba" and "Lyra Viol" to see what has been done in this direction over the centuries, then start drawing plans for your own interpretation.

  • oh ok, out of pure curiosity, would you mind if someone else tried to replicate your success? I've been building guitars for about a year and am really interested in your guitarviols. After building my first violin, i've decided i want to try and build a "hybrid" instrument like your design. obviously it will not be sold, it will be for my own personal use. would you have any problem with this?

  • that was very pretty

  • Fantastic!
