This video is dedicated to YouTuber JoeCubicle (see link below) who taught me the following trick for getting great in-close shots with my Sanyo Xacti DMX-CA9 camera. Here is the email I received from him explaining the feature and usage tips he recommends. I hope JoeCubicle's tips might be helpful to other Xacti camera owners.

"Kurt,
I think I heard you say something about having a Sanyo Xacti. Did you get one? The reason I'm asking is that I just discovered something yesterday on mine that is so cool and you were the first person I thought of. Whether you did or not, I'll just tell you in case you get one.

Go to the Menu, Focus, Set to Manual, back out. Now... get close up on something and move the little joystick left and right to focus in and out. You have to make sure the focus bar is in the display, if it's not there then go into the Menu, Focus etc... I can focus on something that is literally 'touching' the lens. It gets in that close! It is really neat on plants, leaves, flowers, bugs and most anything organic. You can also hold the Xacti upside down to get the 'handle' out of the way and just flip the video back to right side up in the editor. This lets you get REALLY LOW on things close to the ground getting a level-view instead of pointing down on things.

If you didn't get a Xacti... you might now. I'm going to try and make an 'Earth Day' video using all Macro shots. We'll see how it turns out. So when you see it, you'll know how I got so close up on things.

Take Care,
JoeCubicle"

  • I thought it was illegal to own guns in Japan. Who would be using the gun range?

  • @KriegderFeuer Some people do possess guns and judging from the numerous cars I often see at this range it seems shooting is very popular. Some farmers have rifles and as this is a farming community perhaps many of the ranger users are farmers. I think that the range also rents guns for use at their facility. ~Kurt :-)

  • I <3 jumping spiders. I'll definitely have to look for that camera when I have income again. That's the same one that's waterproof, right?

  • @WaruiTanuki Yes, this is the waterproof Xacti (model # DMX-CA9). I recommend a backup battery. A good case is also a good idea as the camera has not lens cover. Also be sure to read the tip from JoeCubicle which I included in the info section of this video as this information will help you unlock the close-up potential of your Xacti. Happy video taping! ~Kurt :-)

  • What was that loud banging?

  • @darkwolflord The sounds you hear are from a nearby gun range. Thank you for watching. Kurt :-)
