As far as I know, the USSR had no right to call a time-out. So they cheated. International forums were heavily pro- Communist throughout the 1970s. The IOC, the United Nations, nearly all the International sporting bodies. There was a 1976 aeroplane tournament which categorically highlighted the frenetic pro-Soviet bias in International sports tournaments. The 1980 Moscow Olympics had to be boycotted.

The Americans lost this game--in part--because they kept the underdog in it too long. It was a controversial ending for sure....but the USA lost that game because they hadn't taken business earlier in the game. Frankly, the game should never have been that close. The USA did not play well and the slow down game of Coach Iba also contributed to the USA loss. If the USA plays the up tempo game...it would not have been close. But, bottom line is USA lost.

Are the Yanks still crying over this? Suck it up babies. You lost. The USSR got the gold and because the Americans carried on like spoiled children with their little feelings hurt, refusing to stand on the podiium for the silver, get nothing. It has been 40 years and they are still blubbering like little girls who lost their Barbie dolls. Pathetic.
