Happy 82nd Birthday, Mickey Mouse! Yep. 82 years ago today, November 18, 1928, Walt Disney's "first" star, Mickey Mouse made his theatrical debut in "Steamboat Willie", the first-ever synchronized sound cartoon, at the Broadway theater in New York City. So to celebrate the birthday of everyone's favorite mouse, this is a special newly recorded soundtrack to the opening of "Steamboat Willie." (Introduced by Walt Disney, himself), then as the music ends, Walt introduces "The Skeleton Dance", the first Silly Symphony cartoon. This is from the Disneyland episode, "The Story of the Animated Drawing", originally aired on ABC in 1955. It is available on Walt Disney Treasures: Behind the Scenes at the Walt Disney Studio. Why I put "first" in quotation marks is because Mickey was NOT Walt's first star. We had Alice, then Oswald, THEN Mickey. Mickey was Walt's first HUGE star, but not his absolute first. Enjoy!

  • Who's Alice (before Oswald), was she a cartoon character made by Walt???

  • @CessnaKitty152 Animation pioneer Max Fleisher (Betty Boop, Popeye and Koko the Clown) created the first motion pictures to put a cartoon character into the live action set, and Walt Disney was inspired to do the opposite- put the live actor into the cartoon set. So Walt, Ub Iwerks, and a few other guys made a short film starring a little girl named Alice (played by Virginia Davis) who dreams about a place called "Cartoonland" after visiting Walt's studio. It was made in 1923.

  • The next walt Disney has to be out there somewhere disney's personality and love for drawing can't be gone forever.... he/she has to be out there I just know it!!

  • @FakeCatvalentine That's my future goal in life! To be the next Walt Disney! So within I want to say, 10 years (if I'm lucky), look for the name Brian Slatky. Okay? Okay.
