This haunting setting of the prayer Modim Anachnu Lach was composed by the great Israeli-American composer, Aminadav Aloni. Aminadav Aloni (1928 - 1999) was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. He studied at the Haifa Institute of Music primarily as a pianist. After arriving in the United States he attended both the Juilliard School of Music and New York University. He began composing exclusively secular music at first, but in 1970 he started writing Jewish music. He received numerous commissions for works on Jewish themes, ranging from religious services to full symphonic scores. Mr. Aloni made his permanent residence in the Los Angeles area, where he composed for television, films, and theater. His foundation publishes his music. This was recorded in the main sanctuary at Rodef Shalom Congregation, Pittsburgh for our Rosh HaShana evening service.
