Rembrandt film Bert Haanstra / muziek Henny Vrienten

De video is een fragment uit de film 'Rembrandt, schilder van de mens' van filmregisseur Bert Haanstra. Speciaal voor het Rijksmuseum schreef zanger en componist Henny Vrienten muziek bij dit filmfragment. Haanstra had in 1956 opdracht gekregen deze film te maken vanwege het feit dat Rembrandt 350 jaar eerder was geboren. De scène is een opeenvolging van zelfportretten van de grote schilder.
Haanstra reisde de wereld af om de verschillende schilderijen zelf te kunnen filmen met zijn 16mm-camera. Daarbij zorgde hij ervoor dat de ogen van Rembrandt steeds in exact dezelfde positie in het beeld stonden. Wie goed kijkt, ziet dat deze ogen in de loop van zijn leven precies hetzelfde blijven terwijl het gezicht van de kunstenaar uiteraard veroudert. Tegenwoordig is het niet moeilijk met de computer dit soort scènes te manipuleren. Wat Haanstra in de jaren '50 deed was dus een hele vroege vorm van computeranimatie.
