I can't believe all the people complaining about the money that goes into NASA! Are you ignorant fucks aware that if we were to reduce military funding by 1%, NASA's budget would grow 40x over! All our money goes towards the military, I am very thankful of all the soldiers fighting for are freedom but you people need to see that the money that went into funding our amazing space program was a grain of sand compared to everything else our money used for.. @Textrybal They are not air intakes, They are simply rain covers to protect the thrusters of the OMS pod on the ground. The vibrations of engine start rip them and soon after launch they are shed. This happens all over the orbiter at launch.

Can someone tell me what are the holes we see forming at 0:26 just above the word ''LIVE''. My guess is they are some kind of air intake that blow out or in as the main engine start. Anyone? thx!

I hate to see the shuttle go. A great program. My uncle helped build those Shuttles. He is now retired, but he cried when he saw this final launch. The shuttle was truely an amazing craft. Defeating bland theories of what can and cannot be reached. The shuttle will be missed. R.I.P orbiters.

@PATlMUSPRlME how about we reduce all the money spent on political pork and give aways and use THAT to fund NASA? While we're about it, NASA needs their own version of a H. Rickover, a man with a vision and determination to point NASA in a given direction and see that it goes there. Whether it's landing on the moon, an asteroid, searching for extra-solar planets and if there is life on some of Jupiter's moons, dammit.
