@solaris101 , It's called a hang drum. they were made exclusively by twp sweedish people who have now stopped making them and fetched prices of around 1000-1500 each, which is why it's rare to see buskers using them. These instruments are now being made in very limited numbers by pantheon steel.

@solaris101 It's a steel drum. He's got it off the stand, flipped upside down and ... well, it's usually played with mallets. This guy is pretty innovative. Well done!

Ive got a video uploaded onto youtube, of the same bloke playing this instrument in amsterdam.(hang drum) Might even be the same day.... as he looks like he's dressed the same... GREAT sound.
