The sound quality is as expected, not too good. I am not complaining at all. I can clearly hear his every beat and it's nice to hear something so acoustic. Derek is a bad ass player. There are some real power behind his strokes. I especially love the part when he is playing a blast beat on the ride.

@Xanadude575 I'm a big Sim Cain / Rollins Band fan..it does look a bit like him. I couldnt agree more re the audience..they are all so different. The thing about Derek is he seems to deliver really unique stuff I have never heard before..not just speed but some truly amazing mind blowing fills with feet and hands.
Thanks for filming / uploading.

No but kinda looks like him. I spoke with the gentleman at length before & after the clinic. If he looks enthralled with Derek's drumming, it's because he'd never seen anybody play like this before. Part of why this video is so fun to watch is to see the audience's reactions. It's quite a mixed batch of onlookers.

what technique does derek use for his blasts because it really dosent look like the usual flying fingers

@mcdrummonkey
He tunes his snare too low to rely just on rebound, so his blasts are mostly from the wrists and forearms (fingers are used for control mostly).
He also has good posture.

@Xanadude575 I've actually been right next to him as he was playing at a clinic and he does use fingers on his right hand, but only his right hand and for really fast stuff and the ride cymbal. You can actually see him use fingers in this vid at :28.

He just spent a lot more time working on the "power" part of his blasts, which can't be achieved by using all fingers like many players do. Derek noted at the start of this clinic that he often sacrifices speed for power, and that he is a firm believer in blast beats being powerful and audible.
