This laser uses the laser head from a SSY-1 laser range finder.

Camera flash circuits are used to charge a bank of 8 flash capacitors. A series fo switchs control charging, firing, aswell as managing the cap bank. The caps are rated for 330V and charged to 300-320V for firing, they are then aranged in a 600-640V configuration for firing. The 8 caps are divided into a two sets of four which are aligned in series only for firing, they are then realigned in parallel for charging. A ninth cap is used for ionizing the lamp for firing.

  • Nice set up there!! Ive got the same head, and I was wondering if you could show me how you wired it all up?

  • @IonLaserMinistry Its a pretty simple setup using flash caps and the small inverters and triggers you get out of disposable cameras. The inverters are pretty weak and i have since dismantled this laser and stored it away till i can get a better inverter. the descrition under the video has got a good overview of how i did the caps, im not sure it would all fit in this little message.

  • really nice and easy setup!

Where did you get the laser head and how much was it?

    best regards

  • @phikre Thanks! I got it off of ebay some time ago for $125. I think the last time i looked the price had gone up slighty, its still a good deal in my mind :)

  • Nice watch

  • but will it blend? JK good work!!

  • Very impressive ........ bit of a blunt instrument . But very impressive.

  • circuit shematics? I have the same head

  • Nice setup! Try putting a lens on it... With a nice strong lens (about 1" focal length) I've been able to punch holes in aluminum foil with mine.

  • wow some body gots lots of fuckint ime on their hands!

  • It's a nice example of how burst is more effective than continuous beam, experiments like this could set the basis for future laser weapons

  • Could also be a bomb...

  • Hello
