Pruning Rose of Sharon plants, also known as hibiscus syriacus, should be done annually to keep the plant healthier, to encourage new plant growth and to keep it under control. Allow a Rose of Sharon plant to fill in through the growing season, trimming it back one third while it is dormant, with advice from a sustainable gardener in this free video on gardening.
There is trick to pruning your ROS. Very easy! I clipped mine back about two feet from the top in the spring " before" it leafed out. The top now has a lot more flowers on top!.

@mitsugst06 (Actually the "Rose of Sharon" is not a rose at all. It's an hibiscus of the breed "Hibiscus Syriacus").

They are really out of control in my neghborhood, so the town hall emploees collect their fallen flowers from the roads in weekly basis. :) I just planted some in the veranda, and wait for them to root and grow. :) I don't remember if they have perfume or not. :)
