The Supreme Court would be a permanent appointment, where he wouldn't have been able to fire attorneys or work as directly under Bush, but it would really be a different set of powers. He'd vote for Bush's policies instead of enacting them like he did as AG. He also might not have been supported by his party for Supreme Court.

Just when we thought we couldn't get a more authoritarian Attorney General than Ashcroft, we got Gonzales. The torture guy.

  • I usually hate these things but it's worth a shot...

  • I'm scheduled to die tomorrow from another comment I didn't repost. Thanks for buying me an extra 2 days!!!! Bless you good man Joe!

  • Some things you might consider,

    1) Allowing Gonzales to become AG meant he wouldn't be nominated to the Supreme Court where he could do far more damage.

    2) Minority parties have to choose there battles, and the upcoming Supreme Court nominations were considered more important battles.

    3) They may not have liked him, but perhaps Democrats didn't think they could get a better nominee from Bush. Remember, Gonzales replaced Ashcroft. Who would replace Gonzales?

  • I'm number 17! woohoo! I'm a minute in and think it's good so far!
