It means wear your kilt to church.

Kirk (Gaelic) = Church (English), The English "translation" is "Churching of the Tartan" meaning a blessing on the tartans. Since the Episcopal Church in the US owes so much of its existence to the Scots, this ceremony is often still practised around St. Andrew's Day in November in Episcopal/Anglican churches in North America.

what a beautiful church! what does kirken o' the tartan mean?

Very enjoyable and wonderful to see! I'm of Scots descent and bagpipes stir up my blood! It was entirely enjoyable, except for the priestess at the start.
-
Delightful! Thanks for sharing. (Was it just me, or did the acolytes look terrified on the first walk down the aisle with that wall of sound swelling behind them?!)

Do tell what is so "unspeakably vulgar" about this? Do you have any idea what this is? You obviously have no clue, or no Celtic blood, or you would be roused by this wonderful display of our heritage. Vulgar is the Egyptian bodybuilders on your favorites, you weirdo!

Me too! I love wooden floors. This looks like a special place. Peace to you!

*sigh* Why do Americans always have to come up with unspeakably vulgar stuff like this? I can't think of a single church in Scotland that would do something as tacky as this ...
Wonderful!

I was thinking about the Cathedral on Sunday, Nov-11. I hope to hear more from you.
