  • Hey, nice video! I'm going to go spearfishing in the Bahamas for the first time soon, and was wondering if you could give me some tips, and let me know if there's any precautions I can make to be safe from sharks. Thank you!

  • @peanutmaster1231

Hey bud! I hope you have a great time in the Bahamas and get plenty of fish! As far as I know you're only allowed to use pole spears or hawaiian slings in the Bahamas, no spearguns....

Sharks are a part of spearfishing, especially in the tropics! Diving with other people is good in sharky areas, that way you can watch each others backs. If you're diving alone, don't burley and do your best to shoot the fish in the brain or spine, that way the sharks won't be as keen!

  • Excellent footage from the best country on earth.I admire your guts spearfishing in our wild waters. I gotta ask you, are you paranoid of noahs with all the blood, burley and big fish giving off the i'm injured message in the open ocean? I'm a Soth Aussie and spent most of my youth spearfishing and fishing off our coast but have had a couple of frightening experiences with sharks. How do you overcome this fear in our part of the world?

  • @SouthernCross33

Thanks chief! This vid was filmed at a very sharky spot!

The fear of sharks depends on where we're diving. I find diving up north not too bad because it's mostly whalers and tigers (still can be bastards!). Diving along the coast south of Geraldton increases the chances of bumping into a white which definately plays on my mind, more now than ever (3 fatal attacks in WA in 2 months...) Offshore, the reward of big fish pushes the fear to the back of my mind...

As you can see from the movie, I enjoy hunting and eating seafood.

So I gather you don't eat meat or fish, wear leather shoes or eat Jelly? If so good for you, you're making a huge difference. If not, I admire your hypocrisy...

  • @mattycazam2

Just went to your youtube account and can't see any spearing vids...? Where are the vids of all of your fish?

We use sambo's for dog food and burley. And as you are an expert on freedive spearfishing 'skill', you would know that coral trout are one of the most difficult fish to spear.... pffft

  • @underseaash Thank you for responding so quickly! I'm going with a friend, so I'll be with other people. And the thing he has is a Hawaiian sling, I didn't know there was a difference between spear guns and hawaiian sling. Thanks again!

  • that is some nice king fish there>>

  • haha you are nuts doing that in WA, whites everywhere

  • @SouthernCross33

Never heard of it being a 'law', its certainly recommended by the USFA and club policy though. It maybe law to use bouys in areas of high boat traffic but then it would be common sense anyway and areas of high boat traffic like harbours your not allowed to spear in anyway

  • @bluesirsanchez Blended, good descriptive term used. Anyway i thought it was law in all of Oz to have the dive float markers, is this not so?

  • @MrSbronzo BAHAHAHA spearfishing in Washington??? The only thing you could shoot there is neocon sharks
