Vietnam began 1955

Let me get this right. Nixon commits murders on a world scale and Rev Billy Graham praises him and says "God bless you." Do I need to say more ... religious and political hypocrisy memorialized in a phone conversation ... there it is ... listen and reflect.

@cunn9305 totally untrue... lodge was a longtime kennedy family enemy from boston who sided with the CIA's way of looking at vietnam. kennedy wanted diem to accept certain things and allow certain political ppl in exile back into the gov. and even in the end kennedy would have given the diem bros safe passage but lodge wouldnt send his cable back quick enough and by the time JFK got it the generals had moved in, killing the diem bros.

"well, good for you"
JFK did not kill Diem directly but he and Lodge gave blessing to the coup that led to his assassination. This is clearly a situation where a Democratic administration lost its nerve in putting up with all the faults of a strong but flawed anticommunist leader. Once he was gone the country fell completely apart and we were forced to take over or leave altogether. We see how that worked out. Kennedy forgot FDR's maxim : " He might be an SOB, but he's OUR SOB ". Truer words were never spoken.
