  • This is the best revenge scene ever. Period.

  • "Yes, I can be very cruel. I have been taught by

    masters."

If more women learned to be selfish and cruel from

the cruelty that most men dish out, the world

would be a very different place.

I actually don't look at it as revenge. I like to think that she finally grew up. She said it was the last needle point she would do (her father had said she was only good at needle point). She gives Morris the wedding present to rid herself of her past (I actually don't think Morris would have actually been bad to her).

She will stop relying on others to define her life. She can now move forward with her own life. This is a transition point for her to "re-start" her life.

  • She cuts that thread with the same conviction as she rids herself of him and romantic illusions.

This scene is a great ending.

    I'm glad you posted it.

  • @Artemis54 Catherine was no longer going to be the homely spinster who spends her life with needlepoint and tears. The empowerment she felt turning Morris away was life-changing, and she was finally able put aside all those things that made her the weak, naive girl she once was.

(At least, that is my interpretation!)

  • "Bolt the door, Mariah."

    I love this film.

  • My friend and I watched this movie tonight on DVD. My friend thought Catherine was a fool to lock the door against Morris. She thought Morris actually finally loved Catherine. Even Catherine said "Now he wants my love, too." But then, how come he only came back after her father was dead and she was richer than ever? And when she said "let's elope tonight" and went upstairs, he walked around the room smugly looking at all the things he would own. And why didn't he write to her after he ran off?

  • Morris got what he deserved...

  • Outstanding

  • @annabelle2ful - I think it's good that she finally realized what the real deal was & was able to shut him out of her life for good. I think she can now move onto a new & happier life.

  • @Artemis54 - It's symbolic of her getting rid of her unhappy past & moving on to find new ways to be happy.
