  • Very true. I work in a high school setting we have one teacher who is bound determined to teach acceptable social behavior (respect for adults) in a school setting to all her students including the HH mainstreamed student. The student does not appropriately get her attention and instead of saying excuse me or directly approaching the teacher the student will bang their hand or tap a pencil on the table or use other type of behavior that the teacher finds disrespectful. What is your opinion?

  • @swmoterp Hi! I think (this is my opinion) that it is important to have mutual respect. So if the teacher is asking for manners that fit in a hearing setting, that is appropriate and the student should learn and use "school" manners. It is a life skill for interacting with hearing world. However, I hope the teacher is open to some visual attention getting like hand waving. Thanks for comment ;o) SH

  • Ya know,,,, at first I REALLY wanted to not like you. Unfortunately, your messages are very good and your sign language is excellent and I know I would love you as an interpreter. Nice job!

  • @carnrick Wow Mr. Darcy! That's the nicest thing anyone has said to me lately! ;o) Have a great weekend!! SH

  • Thank you for explaining this! I constantly have people telling me either I or any other Deaf person person would make a great roommate because it would be quieter, and I just laugh. I wasn't born deaf but I do tend to be loud at times. Not so much with my voice but with doing things around the apartment. I usually forget things have sound so I slam cupboard doors a lot, banging on things, playing loud music to feel the vibration from my laptop, etc. So late-deafened people can be loud too! :)

  • @iamWiredUnique Hi! Thanks for comment! Good point about banging around...true! People and life in general is noisy...I have earplugs for when it gets out of hand in my household ;o) SH
