Nick's POV
"CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!" a crowd of people-including my too imature for words brother-gathered around the huge kitchen island chanting for some guy in a toga with a mason jar full of some kind alcohol. I shook my head and started to walk away, looking in all the directions for somewhere I could just chill out at until my brother was done being an idiot. I searched around the crowded terracotta mansion for some place that wasn't enveloped in people. No such luck. I walked into the massive living room and sat down on one of the big fluffy suede couches that sat a few feet away from the plasma screen that was playing music videos. "Good Girls Go Bad" was flickering across the screen at top speed. Huh, must've been the remix. I looked over to where Joe stood leaning against the archway that lead to the kitchen. He was talking to a pretty dark-headed girl that wore a short black dress with blue lace poking out of the bottom. Joe, Joe, Joe. Sigh. I was now officially bored out of my brains so I decided to listen to my iPod. I grabbed my earbuds from my pockets and plugged them into my iPod. I scrolled through the songs and let it land on "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder. I slumped back against the couch, took in the smell of the crisp Yankee pumpkin pie candles burning all around and just sat there thinking. About what you ask? Well, call me crazy but, how do they make candles smell so good? I mean, of course it's just wax and scents and coloring. Right? But how do they make it that strong? Must be all the extracts... I'll have to Wikipedia it when we get back to the hotel. Dear God, I'm so freakin' boring. I shook my head and smiled to myself. It took me a few moments to realize it, but some kid was talking to me on my left. Hmm, I didn't even notice him sit down.
"Superstition? That's a good song. The whole album was pretty amazing." the boy said. He looked about my age, maybe a year or so younger? His hair was short and dark, almost black and his big dark green eyes reminded me of a little kid who just walked out of a candy store. His whole face looked sort of kid-ish.
"Uh-huh." I agreed, trying to see if this guy really knew anything about Stevie Wonder or if he was just some brother of a crazy fan who was trying to get an autograph.
"But the whole 'Talking Book' album was pretty awesome."
Yep, the guy knew what he was talking about.
"I totally agree. 'Maybe Your Baby' was another classic." I noted, turning my iPod down so I could hear the guy.
"Really? I prefer Big Brother. That's a really good song."
The boy, whose name happened to be Riley (who was also the same age as me, 16), and I sat there talking about music for about 45 minutes until some girl came over to him with a huge stain on her dress, that smelled strongly of beer, and asked him if he could help her. I assumed that they had come here together. Riley went with her of course and disappeared from my sight for probably the rest of the night. I was on my own again. The party was getting louder and the people were getting drunk-er and more obnoxious. If drunker's even a word. I sat at that same couch, bored yet again, until a turquoise light shone off the wall. I turned my head and realized that in the kitchen there was a giant sliding French door that lead out to some kind of patio/deck terracotta-clad, type area. Complete with a pool, hence the turquoise light. I got up from the couch and shoved my way through the people. Finally making it to the sliding doors, I slid them open to find a beautiful patio, dimly lit with paper laterns, the moonlight, and the light reflecting off the pool. I walked out further and saw a shadow in the grass.
