Cape Maclear (or Chembe) is a town in the Mangochi District of Malawi's Southern Region. The town, situated on the Nankumba Peninsula, is on the southern shore of Lake Malawi and is the busiest resort on Lake Malawi. Cape Maclear is close to the islands of Domwe and Thumbwe on Lake Malawi, and is in Lake Malawi National Park.

  • @welcomegohome So annoying too, they're often quite and unfriendly and stuck up. It bothers me when they go to poor countries and observe locals as if they're some attractions, yet they engage in no local activity and are often timid and afraid.

  • 0:43 It is so easy to spot liberal West European tourists. Just the way they dress, guys with their backpacks, girls with their hair back and some silky leisurely looking dress. So typical. You people travel around the world as if your countries still matter. The EU is failing.

  • $300- and $300 back to the airport... no, not worth it, mate. People charging that much should be put away in jail. It will ruin tourism, which the local economy could really use.

  • @patriotnamvet

renting a car is yer best bet I reckon

  • Yes- its is way too much but that is the current rate for tourists. Whether from Blantyre or Lilongwe, the cost for a driver to take you direct by car to/from the lake is $250-$300USD. That amount in Kwacha would fill your suitcase. Oh- there are other cheaper options- like the local minibuses for about $15 but tourists going to stay at high-end resorts like Cape MacLear or Makakola/Boadzulu don't want to ride filthy (with chickens!), crowded local transports. 3 hr trip takes 8+ hrs by minibus!

  • was that by a small plane? oherwise they over charged you,am fro malawi and 300dollars is way too much

  • Tourism isn't going to go anywhere unless tourists can get to the Lake from one of the major airports for a reasonable fare. Fare from Lilongwe (Kamusu International Airport) to Cape MacLear: $300USD, one way. And that doesn't even include fried mice on a stick.

  • done that, warn the t-shirt :-)

  • Been there :-)
