After some talking to the audience by Clapton, which is very rare, the band play a fantastic New Orleans version of Clapton's most famous song.
Recorded April 2011, Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York City.

  • But, Jazz music is nothing without the Blues, and Wynton knows it. That´s why he played with EC. This reminds me the times when Dizzy Gillespie and his band played with T-Bone Walker. It is true that jazz musicians play blues different, but the esence is just the same, the spaces, the voice, the rythm. Luis Amstrong had it, just like Robert Johnson had it too. I think that people who says that Blues is just not enoght, maybe just don´t understand Jazz too.

  • This collaboration is simply inspiring. Well done Wynton, Eric & your awesome fellow musicians. I can't wait for the collaboration. As for the jazz experts hung up on pentatonic and chromatic scales, please let us know where we can get your stuff. It should be awesome too.

  • WOW! :)

  • good good music.............

  • It's not what I'm used to but I have to admit, it kept me glued to the screen.

  • @hudsontoronto I totally agree, I love Clapton and have been to many of his shows, but here he's playing in his normal rock style...not in a jazz mode at all. The band is awesome though. I would think that Claptons only foray into anything slightly resembling jazz was "Reptile" and even then it's only a very slight touch...and it's nice to hear " Layla " done in another musical style.

  • I would give my life to have a coffee and play some guitar with Clapton!!

  • Truly inspiring...This will mark a spot in music history! Amazing.

  • It takes a lot to subordinate egos and collaborate ... which the nay sayers in the list of comments need to understand and whenever they become excellent in their craft someone will possibly listen to them, possibly -till then be silent and go your own way ...

  • I'm really grateful to all of the Artists who have created these various versions of this one song.

  • Using this song as an example and reference can be a real life saver when you are in court defending yourself against someone who has maliciously and dishonestly misquoted you especially when it's true that you said the words but those words were the denotations and not the connotations and were the other homonyms.

  • I've cited this song in serious legal situations when there had been misquotes involved.

Words can have many different meanings when the mood tempo and other factors are changed.

Even body language and facial expression can make a difference. Cases of possible double entendre may not turn out to be double entendre if the speaker is not laughing.
