i think that it was late 1965, early 1966, that all the ww2 popeyes got pulled off tv.

When it first aired, the Jim Bowie (pronounced Boo-ey, not Bow-ey) TV show got in some difficulty with the censors who felt that there was too much by-play with the famous knife. After all, there were kids out there in black leather jackets who knew how to handle a switchblade knife and the censors didn't want to add to their education. I recall watching this show on Friday nights about 8 p.m. In fact, I even had a Bowie knife but only as a collector's item.

The Popeye TV Show may have come on in 1956, but that first film, "You're A Sap, Mr. Jap," dates back to WWII when it was shown in the theaters and we were at war with Japan. Duh-h-h. Come on people, many of the cartoon shows you saw in the Fifties were simply old movie cartoons that were re-broadcast...i.e. Mighty Mouse Playhouse. It wasn't until the late Fifties and early Sixties that Hanna-Barbara got in the act with Yogi Bear. By then TV cartoons were in color.

Was that Sally Star's voice on the first moments of this video?
She had a TV show called" Popeye Theater" in Philadelphia in the 1950's and early 1960's.
There are no videos of her starring in "Popeye Theater" in existence because the TV station she worked for erased each show's video tape to reuse it for the next.
There is just one video of her doing a cowboy western show in the 1980's in New Jersey.

Well Uncle Bob, I'm sure the shows came out in 1956, but not exactly sure of each clip's year. It's pretty hard to get accurate info on clips from 50-60 year ago. LOL
