I love this fly! I made a minor modification which seems to work well. I cut the plastazote in the form of a wrist watch rather than just a straight line. This gives it a round form much like real beetles, and I think it gives it a bit more balance. Just a thought from a novice fly-tyer.

We use this in South Africa to very great success targeting our smallmouth yellowfish in gin clear lakes.
We have slight differences here and there, but all in all it is basically the same fly!
You now gave me a great idea for legs, we use hackle for legs but this looks like it will work much better!
