The vest is very good if you are out on a large lake - going fast -etc. Just like for humans.
To ipi - some dogs feel comfortable learning to swim with a vest - it is obviously best for the dog to learn to swim and not rely on a vest.
One of my females just followed a GSP on a dock dive and did it on her own.
Like children, all pups/dogs are different.

OMG, they have swimming vests! We just gave our vizsla a push into a small lake in the park and let him figure out how to move his body. I wish I would have thought about the vest...they look adorable.
