Band Aid II - Do They Know It's Christmas ( HQ 1080p HD Upscale )
"Do They Know It's Christmas?" is a song written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in 1984 to raise money for relief of the 1984--1985 famine in Ethiopia. The original version was produced by Midge Ure and released by Band Aid on 29 November 1984.
A new version was recorded under the name of Band Aid II in 1989, produced by the popular Hit Factory team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman and featuring a number of the year's most accessible artists, including Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Lisa Stansfield, Cliff Richard, Jimmy Somerville, Wet Wet Wet and Bros. Bananarama also appeared, making Sarah Dallin and Keren Woodward the only artists to appear on both versions (although they couldn't be heard on the first).
The lyrics are rearranged for a more traditional "verse and chrorus" structure, with the opening verse being split in two with a short repeat of the ending chorus being played at the end of both, followed by the "here's to you" section and a final lengthened version of the closing chorus (with commentary by Michael Buerk played over the closing in the music video).
The song again reached #1 for Christmas, raising more money and also making it the final number-one single of the 1980s. It was also the final song to be played on Top of the Pops in the Eighties.

Well this video was a headache. It was very noisy. First denoising pass was done to remove the overlaying fizz and boy there was a lot of it. Other filters were applied to enhance and bring out more detail. This also amplified residual noise and so another denoising pass had to be run with different filters. Color was tweaked and also brightness/contrast.
Scaling this to HD resolution was a problem at first because the scaling methods I use for most files didn't do very well with this video. This has a lot to do with the way the video has been put together. The way the video image varies due to different styles of shooting, including 'special effects' like mock 'grain' and 'fizz noise' placed in sections of the video, really confused the filters. The results were terrible. It took me a few days to work it out, but when I did it came out just great.
Sound was harsh, with an overdose on treble and midrange. I had to remaster the audio with various filters. It now sounds great to match the great visuals.
This is the only very high quality video of this song that you will find anywhere online. I hope you enjoy my very hard work in bringing you these video gems! :-)
I can't believe Jason Donovan sang Bono's part. This version sucks balls and makes me reaslose how crap this genre of music was at the time but if it raised money for a good cause then it's all good.
