The woman was identified by the London Sun as bank worker Mary Bale, 50. The newspaper's headline on Tuesday screamed "Cruel cat woman named and shamed." On Saturday, a woman was caught on a closed-circuit television camera caressing the cat's head and looking around as it walked near her on a wall in Coventry. Moments later, the woman opens the hinged lid of a large green bin, tosses the cat inside, and then walks away. The cat, a four-year-old pet named Lola and owned by Stephanie Andrews-Mann and her husband Darryl, was discovered by its owners some 15 hours later, covered in its own feces and urine. The couple started a Facebook page called Help Find The Woman Who Put My Cat In The Bin. As of Tuesday, there were more than 15,000 supporters. Some of the comments range from anger to extreme hatred, threatening the woman with death and dismemberment. One reader said he would " . . . brutally murder her and then mail off pieces of her to both catfood companies and her own family." But John Hennesy's comment was more typical, saying he " . . . would like to put her in a bin for 15 hours and starve her fat ass of food." Police officers are on duty outside Bale's home. She was questioned by animal protection authorities on Tuesday, but there was no immediate word on what came from that meeting.Police said they could not charge her because no criminal offence had been committed.
