My first attempt to can! I think it worked! lol I heard the clicking! lol
I followed the "Ball" Home Preserving cookbook instructions very closely!
The evening before I prepared as much as I could to make the morning canning go as smooth as possible.

This was alot of fun!
Special thanks all the canning pro's out there..Bexarprepper,Katzcradul, atticus9799 and others who post safe canning videos. Please let me know if you see something I did wrong... I think I got it right. :-)

Ohhh I'm already thinking about pickled beets and pickled cukes!

  • I really wanted to try green beans with the pressure cooker, unfortunately when I went back to the farmers market yesterday, they didn't have them anymore. I would have gotten them last week but I think peaches and beans in one day would have been about a 10 hour job and way too much for a first-time canner. I also want to try chicken some time this winter. Thanks for posting.

  • @tyler2610 OHhh yea that would have been alot of work in one day. Maybe they'll have some next week.

There are so many things I want to can!

I just bought a pressure canner. (a small one.) I really got bit by the canning bug bad. lol

I canned some chili, some yams and some whole berry cranberry sauce. :-) I videotaped it, just need to edit them.

Not much space left in the cupboards. lol...

  • love to hear the excitement in your voice! It really is fun to do... but it's even more fun to eat them in the middle of winter

  • @cfenster ohhh..You're right, I am really going to enjoy these over the winter! I didn't think about that. I bought more jars today. I really got a kick out of it all. lol that it actually WORKED. lol

I can't wait to do pickled beets.

  • looks like you are serious now , nice supply of goods.. never done peaches but you are off to a good start with canning.. :)

  • I also canned peaches for the first time last week! I did 14 quarts and i didn't hear one of my jars "pop." I was soo scared that my jars were going to be a waste not to mention the hours of work and the mess in my kitchen. Well thank God they all sealed properly and I have already eaten a few quarts and they turned out very good. The variety of peaches I bought were not as tart as what I remember my mom canning at home, but they were still good, mine were more like store bought.

  • @Discernaoftruth Thanks so much! I was a little excited, since it was my first attempt at canning. lol

The stores down here were clearing out for the season, so I need to go get some more jars before they're gone.

    :-)

  • GREAT VIDEO!! You have also reminded me that I need to stock up on my supplies...lol

  • @AndyDaviesByTheSea Ohh I have some jelly jars and I would love to make some type of jam. How wonderful that must taste compared to what you find in a store!

This newer jar lifter has a spring or something to where its open by default...so all you do is close it. It just makes it a little easier to handle it. (plus it was on end of season clearance! double win! lol)

lol Well I did have to "sample" the leftover peaches...I'll have to so additional "taste testing" on them today.

    :-D
