I was lucky enough to see this film on TCM when I was younger, so I have been able to digest it for some time. I will let the film speak for its self. But I can tell you it is one of the most enthralling cinema experiences you'll ever have!

I'm just commenting to second this. I've always been curious about this film, having only seen snippets before, and it is truly a wonderful work. I really enjoyed it and it's themes and the philosophy it brings up.

Welles was an early supporter of Guy Debord, the founder of the Situationists in mid fifties France, and they were famous for declaring all of society as fake, mostly industrial society, in their wonderful manifestos. They were an offshoot art movement themselves that dissolved in 1972, but their ideas perfectly describe our collapsing, fake, society of lies at all levels.

I agree with FFGG22E. My nephew introduced me to "Exit through the giftshop" today and, after a while, I tought: "F for Fake". Would Banksy be a "Banksy.Inc", a form of socialist corporation? Why not?

If you can, pick up the Criterion DVD. It has great picture quality and comes with a bevy of special features, including an hour-long documentary about Welles's unfinished works, complete with film clips.

@giallomadman I saw F For Fake at the D.W.Griffith Theater in New York City when the movie first opened. I was the audience, though I admit it was an afternoon showing. It was the second feature. The first was a cartoon with the voices of Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner doing their 2000 year old man bit. F For Fake was the cleverest movie I saw that year and inspired me to travel to that incredible cathedral about 60 miles outside of Paris. Thanks, Orson, wherever you are.

Yes, thanks. And this is a good intro if you had no idea of what F for Fake was all about. I like what he says about letting yourself be taken along, rather than fight it.
