I can't imagine living my life without a pet...I've had many, and they bring SO much JOY...they are just furry, sweet little people to me!  Of course, it is difficult when they die---but that is a test for us...I believe that even though they may not have "soul" like humans do, they still have an animating spirit/life force which never dies---I always feel like that life force is with me---even after their body gives out.

Lol. Unconditional love because they don't have the ability to tell the difference to actually tell the difference from not taking a shower for days, or freshly cleaned, besides maybe the smell xD Animals can mean a lot, but I feel as if we give them TOO MANY human characteristics. When it comes down to it, they're just conditioned that way, it's all they know. I mean, you feed them, house them, pet them, and give them treats. Of course they're going to seem happy and friendly.
