In the late 1970s and early 1980s, a buddy cop show called CHiPs chronicled the adventures of two California Highway Patrol officers named Ponch and Jon.

Unlike that other "buddy" cop show "Starsky and Hutch", CHiPs was family themed and kept the violence to a minimum. Ponch and Jon never drew their guns, let alone fired them. And rarely did they ever use physical force to apprehend suspects.

This episode was a noted exception. Here, Ponch and Jon are confronted by a street gang that is skilled in martial arts and forced into a physical confrontation.

Danny Bonaduce appears as the leader of the gang in this episode titled "A Threat Of War".

  • Why do they always play the same freaking music score with the fight scenes. ALWAYS!

  • There's only maybe three fight scenes in the whole series. I guess they thought it wasn't going to be that repetitive. :-) ChiPs was the most non-violent cop show. Guns almost never drawn, punches almost never thrown. This episode was one of the few exceptions.

  • Cool. However, aren't the karate episodes from Season 4? Oh well, I could be wrong & I'll check it out anyway. Thanks!

  • These ones aren't on DVD (yet). Just wanted to let you know that if you want more CHiPs, they are available.

  • You're in luck. The second season is also on DVD

  • UNCLE!!! UNCLE, UNCLE!!!!!

  • 1:20 WASNT "Ponch" -- that was an expert.

  • @mws755 I think it was in te same episode though, this, I think was a 2 part show (at least in Australia). To me, as a kid, this was one of the most awesome fight scenes in a cop show growing up. So glad it was posted on YT. I believe the guy you're talking about also had his own spin off show in the 80s, called Sabre?

  • Didnt Ponch in another episode fight the dude thats helping him and Jon

  • i thought mr punch had a bigger chin

  • The Cross and the Switchblade is what prepped Ponch for this....Pat

    Boone helped....

  • who would have thought a couple of ginos would get out of their trans am & actually kick some ass.

  • Ponch reminds me of the high school principal Keith Mosley.

  • Do you have the full episode?

  • Danny Partridge needed Keith or Reuben to help him beat down these cops ! Better yet, either kid who played drums in the Partridge Family !! For true pleasure, find the song "I think I love you" buy the PF, turn down the audio on THIS vid, and watch this fighting while listening to "I think I love you".
