The eleventh question of Fatwa no. 19479

Q 11: is it permissible for a Muslim woman to wear pants while wearing a Hijab (veil) when she goes shopping? What is the ruling on wearing loose pants?

A: It is not permissible for a Muslim woman to wear pants, as this is imitating the Kafirs (disbelievers) and Muslims are forbidden from imitating them. Pants also show the shape and contours of a woman's body which will pose as a great source of Fitnah (trying temptation) for her and for men. May Allah grant us success! The first question of Fatwa no. 18283

Q 1: I am a 17-year-old girl and I have not worn the Hijab (veil) yet, but I am on my way to putting it on before 1/11/1995, In sha'a-Allah (if Allah wills), because I have learned that Hijab is Fard (obligatory) on women. I would like to wear Hijab with pants; does Allah permit us to do this? Please provide me with the evidence if it exists.

A: It is obligatory on a woman to be covered from Ajanib (men lawful for the woman to marry) with the Hijab prescribed by the Shari'ah (Islamic law). This should be done without dressing up. If she goes out in clothing that is attractive causing Fitnah (temptation), this is not permissible, even if she is apparently wearing a Hijab. This includes wearing pants instead of full covering clothes. Allah (Glorified be He) says in Surah Al-Ahzab (what means): And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen: that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts. And He (Exalted be He) addressed the Prophet's wives (peace be upon him), saying: And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance, and perform As-Salât (Iqamât-as-Salât), and give Zakât and obey Allâh and His Messenger. He (Glorified be He) also says: O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way).

Sisters need to listen and learn from what the Scholars are saying rather than ignoramuses on youtube giving "hijab" tutorials etc , you have many sisters who say they are wearing hijab yet they wear trousers, jeans, tights in public etc. How can that be considered the correct legislated Hijab? May Allaah rectify these sisters.

Ya Akhi, this isn't even half of the story. You got women posting themselves on YT showing people how to put on makeup, gossiping, etc ! I even seen a channel where she had Hijaab on & she was making videos of herself singing kaafir songs ! La Howla Wa La Qwutu Ella BAllaah Ya Akhi, & they take the advice / Sunnah you give as a mockery. WAllaahe for every view they get, for every eye that bares, verily it will be a witness onto their account on the day of no return.

@SalafeeSpot What about her waist ? What about the opening in between her legs while she stands and sits ? The pants are not from the dress of the woman in the first place. To my knowledge women never wore pants until recently when the shaytaan started to play with the kufaar regarding this matter.

Another thing ya Akhi ... Shaykh Muqbil RaheemuAllaah stated he didn't see nothing wrong with it unless she is only alone with her husband. What Shaykh Fawzaan HafithuAllaah stated is that the pants isn't from the dress of the woman in the first place. Rather it is the dress of some men. Also the Shaykh stated that the Muslim woman shouldn't wear pants in the household as she may get used to it. Fitnah ! Ya Akhi !
