A 3-minute sepia-toned film of selected works of Darius Kinsey, turn of the century photographer of the Pacific Northwest logging industry. Soundtrack from The River Suite by Virgil Thomson.
Darius Kinsey worked from 1890 to 1940s, turning out thousands of photographs of the immense northern forests, the logging industry that worked them, and especially the loggers and their families who lived by felling them. Along with his wife, Tabitha, whose processing and printing of the huge glass plate negatives produced technically brilliant and long-lasting images, Kinsey provided us with a rich historical and artistic documents that create a simple, honest, and sensitively beautiful impression of a bygone time and place.
Thanks for posting this. I'm 35 and only discovered the work of Darius Kinsey this past week at the library. I wish I could've been there in person for the sights and sounds.

Never thought I would see Darius Kinsey's work on youtube. The text pretty well covers what the Kinseys did. Nice work.
