This could almost be from an episode of Human Race, a BBC production a few years ago that sped around a different country in a time-lapse, Koyaanisqatsi-esque fashion each episode. It totally ruled. So does this.

That's pretty awesome. I love the intense color in the shots. I love the transition to night, with all the red blinking lights -- a notable trademark of tokyo.
I forget, do Tokyo subway cars have drivers?

yeah there is a driver but they usually stand on the left.
the transition to night shot was taken from a hotel near shinjuku station and you can actually see mount fuji on the horizon as the sun goes down. heres a photo of it; http://homepage.mac.com/sonicboy/photos-jp/DSC02131.jpg
