Shooting a Magnum Research BFR .480 Ruger/.475 Linebaugh Revolver

Short shooting video of the awesome power of a Magnum Research BFR .480 Ruger /.475 Linebaugh revolver. The .480 Ruger round offers around 1150 ft-lbf of muzzle energy; the .475 Linebaugh around 1300 ft-lbf, both exceeding that of a .44 magnum, providing more than adequate stopping power to take down even a large threat, such as a bear, and certainly a "bad guy".

I'm pretty new at shooting but why are you limpwristing that so much? I know you can do that with single actions and maybe double action revolvers but if you shoot a slide acion like that you may have some loading issues.

@aswomnessguy That was my friend shooting the gun first. Idk why he was doing that, that was the first time shooting it. I think he was just getting a feel for it.

@SupremeAmerican No. The 50 AE has about 1500 ft-lbf at the muzzle, whereas this gun, has 1150 using .480 ruger, or 1300 using .475 linebaugh. But definitely it is pretty close.

In all actuality the 475 is quite a bit more powerful. In ft lbs of factory loads its marginal. Those hornady loads actually run around 1400fps in my gun which puts the ft lbs a bit over 1700lbs. But in terms of performance on game the 475 with a 420gr cast bullet will drop anything that walks including elephant. The 50ae bullets dont have the same sectional density of the 475 so penetration isnt even close. Btw i have 475 handloads that have over 2000lbs of energy.

Even with the hot loads i have, that same 420gr bullet at 950fps (a whopping 841ft lbs) will punch right through a grizzly and its easy to shoot and best of all its accurate. Big bore handgunning isnt about speed or ft lbs. The comment below about the 460 vs the 454 is an example, i have both and the 454 out penetrates the 460 due to the 454 bullets not deforming like they do out of the 460. The 475 you have is the best big bore handgun caliber out imho.

You keep thinking that... But, one day, when a wild rhino gets loose from your friendly neighborhood zoo and charges you, you will be kissing that .454 like it was your mama. And I will be kissing my .460 as I kill the rhino from the next block over :)
