This brief night flight into Boston is not really a training video, but it came at the end of a night cross country. It is worth watching if only to hear what it sounds like to enter Boston's Class Bravo. After completing the cross country from Norwood to Hyannis my CFI was able to get clearance into the bravo for a quick trip east along the Massachusetts Turnpike and then back out. These shots were edited together to create a more appealing video and so the audio from ATC is not necessarily in sequence at any point. In fact the dead air has been removed for time. The video begins after we were already cleared, but the audio let's you hear the clearance from a minute or so before we got this close.

  • Glad you are enjoying them and glad they are helping you to move toward a career in aviation. I would say we should go for a flight someday soon to give you some practical experience, but I think you're on the west coast and I'm on the east. In any case, keep studying and using FSX. That's what I did to start. Flying the pattern in FSX.

  • Thanks. I have just over 80 hours. You'll be moving faster through the process than I did, but I wasn't in a big hurry. I didn't solo until I had 40 hours, but it was fun learning. Should finish up soon at under 100 hours in less than 2 years total. I think I'm averaging about a flight a week. I started in one kind of plane, then after my cross countries had to switch, which set me back. The night flights didn't happen until recently. The really fun part is when you do your cross countries!

  • Its amazing how many people are introduced to flying through flight simmer these days! Thanks for the advice rdfelty and N44949

  • flyer176 - Im 15 and taking flight lessons now. It's great that you use flight simulator - its how I got my love for aviation too. Take the flying lessons offered in the game. I have and passed all the tests and checkrides and hold a virtual commercial, private and instrument. It is very realistic to the real thing. Good luck. If you live near an airport I suggest an introductory flight lesson too! Not too expensive and you will see whether its for you or not. happy flying :)

  • rdfelty, I just want to say your vids and you have inspired me. You take really nice videos and you can here all the detail such as the ATC different angles etc. I haven't been in a real plane yet, but I hope that I can become a private pilot one day (I'm 16). Right now I play FSX but I use it for what it was made for, not flying F18s all day :P. I learned many things from it and also from the internet and am currently reading the FAA AIM! Thanks for the video, and have happy & safe flights

  • i loved my night lessons. never been in bravo.. the closest bravo to me (in san antonio) is the laughlan afb bravo, and there's no reason to be over there to begin with. must be neat learning in a g1000. i do think learning on steam gauges will make it easier later on when i have to buy an older airplane (realisticly speaking.)

    awesome video

  • Great job with this. Really get the feel for all that goes on during a flight. I'm a student with 12 hours hoping to solo soon...looking forward to the night lessons. How many hours have you got?
