The jersey numbers 23 and 12 are the only two retired from the University of North Dakota's hockey program. Ralph Engelstad, the man who built and whose name is on UND's hockey palace, wore #23. Terry Casey wore the number 12. His story may not be as widely known as Engelstad's, but it's one of greatness and tragedy. Casey was a diminutive speedster with uncommon hockey roots. He started on ice as a figure skater in Great Falls, Montana. He later transformed his grace, speed, and skills into an All-American hockey player at UND. He was destined to make the 1968 Olympic team when a tragic car accident ended his life. This story aired on the INSIDE Fighting Sioux Hockey Show produced by the University of North Dakota Television Center.
