Darcus Howe & Richard Seymour on UK Massive Social Unrest and Riots (Democracy Now!) 2 of 2

DemocracyNow.org - Unrest continues to spread across England after protests erupted Saturday in London when police shot to death Mark Duggan, a 29-year-old black man. Mobs firebombed police stations and sets shops on fire in London, Manchester, Salford, Liverpool, Nottingham and Birmingham. After waiting for several days, Prime Minister David Cameron has cut short his vacation and recalled Parliament from summer recess. Scotland Yard has ordered its officers to deploy every available force to stop the unrest, including water cannons and possibly the use of plastic bullets. London has been flooded with 16,000 officers, the largest police presence in the city's history. Democracy Now! interviews journalist Darcus Howe, a longtime critic of police brutality in black and West Indian communities across the U.K., and author and blogger Richard Seymour of the popular British site "Lenin's Tomb."

"There is a mass insurrection — and I am not talking about rioting — I am talking about an insurrection that comes from the depths of society, from the consciousness collectively of the young blacks and whites, but overwhelmingly black, as a result of the consistent stopping and searching young blacks without cause," says Howe of the uprising. Seymour notes non-violent protests against the police searches have been largely ignored by the British media. "A political establishment, a media, and a state system that gives people ... the impression that they will not be listened to, unless they force themselves on to your attention, is going to lead to riots," says Seymour.

What happened to the almost universally accepted standard that looters are shot. That's it. That's just how it is - if you are a looter (get that? "looter" - the lowest creature possible in a civil situation) you are shot dead on the spot. On. The. Spot.

Let's see how long the "riot" (looting) goes on if that is the rule.

i strongly believe the rioters where gang members theres was a interview with a man that owned a shop he said 200 black youths rampaged his shop the reporter said are u shore all of them where black the man replied yeah i was there all were black youth the woman interviewer again said shore all of them were black if i was that man i would told her to fuck off take ur camera go on fuck off the man was there he saw all of them 200 black youths and the reporter was trying to make him lie

yeah but what Mr Howe fails to acknowledge is the amount of black gangs that hunt and rob young white men that out out on their own...what about then they Mr Howe?, have you justification for that?..no of course not but if it happens to your own community oh we cannot have that can we...ok then the next time an innocent white man gets robbed lets get the EDL/BNP to go on the rampage and target businesses

@MegaNazikilla what are you on about watch the video, Darcus Howe even admits it was going to flare up by people from his community, yes I admit I lost my temper in my first comment about targeting afro carrabian business and see how they feel, and I dearly regret saying that as those businesses were also affected by the previous riots...none the less there is a big issue with black gangs in inner city communities that needs to be dealt with, there is no doubt about that

@MegaNazikilla first of all I ain't your bitch, secondly yes I am white but I don't go around thinking I can do whatever I want I have respect for any colour/religion as long as they are honest and don't expect anything for nothing. here in the UK areas such as where the riots started have had issues with gangs run by afro carrbiens for a long time, and they are the sort that go around and singling out young white men out on their own, and also fight against other black gangs may I add.

@RedGaribaldi the main thing that got them into the mess in the first place, same thing in our country,they rather beat you into submission then to talk you into a respectable understanding same with the wars in Iraq n Afghanistan they're using bully tactics and squezing information out of anyone and everyone and thats catastrophic
