Obama Ends Space Flight For A Decade 'Space City' Now 'Detroit'

Experts: US Out of Manned Space Flight for at Least a Decade After Space Shuttle Atlantis lands, the United States is unlikely to returned to manned space flight until the 2020's. President Bush ended the shuttle program and had plans to replace it with the Constellation program. However, President Obama canceled Constellation without any viable alternatives.

Several thousand space industry workers are now out of work and have nowhere to go. These highly skilled engineers and space workers will either retire or leave Florida for good. Thus, President Obama has devastated the knowledge base in space exploration and he has left NASA with no clear goals or direction.

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — The area around Central Florida's eastern shores calls itself "The Space Coast," but with the shuttle program ending, a more apt moniker might be "Space Ghost."

With the 135th and final shuttle mission poised for launch on Friday, parking lots at NASA's Kennedy Space Center already have room to spare. Some managers are answering their own phones. The shuttle workforce, once 18,000 strong, is down to 5,500 contractors and 1,200 government employees. After Atlantis returns to Earth, another 3,200 contractors will need to find new jobs or, if they have the means, retire.

By late August, only a skeleton crew of about 1,000 will remain on the program payroll to prepare the three orbiters — Discovery, Endeavour and Atlantis — for display in museums.

Russia also blew a fortune on this, and now China. Sometimes it is better to forgo false pride by stepping away from something that does not benefit Americans in reality then to keep at it and blow away the reserves meaninglessly.

Things like encouraging American brands to be Made in the USA again, raising the standards of local education and providing more opportunities for students to enter college are way more praiseworthy than something that is science fantasy in the minds of most people.

What Bush and Obama did was actually right. NASA should be at best funded by private interests, since the US and A under JFK had already made the point to the world in the 60s by successfully sending the first man on the moon. Subsequent research year after year thereafter had only been extremely costly and had failed, again at taxpayers' expense, to uncover traces of life or livability on the moon and the other planets in the solar system.

We already have Space X , which has already developed its own rockets and a manned capsule. And there are others too, Bigelow, the dream chaser, and others . America can no longer afford a space program, Yobama took a 1trillion dollar deficit that took over 2 hundred years to accumulate and turned into 3trillion in less than a year.
