Madeleine K. Albright served as the 64th Secretary of State of the United States during the Clinton Administration. She was the first woman Secretary of State and the highest-ranking woman in the history of the United States government. She was a member of the President's Cabinet and National Security Council for eight years, having previously served as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997. As a Research Professor of International Affairs and Director of Women in Foreign Service Program at Georgetown University 's School of Foreign Service, she taught international affairs, U.S. foreign policy, Russian foreign policy, and Central and Eastern European politics, and was responsible for initiating programs designed to enhance women's professional opportunities in international affairs.
