  • As a welsh speaker, I confirm this is wonderful. Hope and joy to you, my Celtic cousins to the north.

  • @AlbaSiar Culture is more than just language though. Ethnicity, food, clothing, etc, etc...

    Culture is a broad term.

But yes I agree with you.

  • @benledi62 They contribute to the death of the language, if they do not attempt to learn it.Inverness has + 5000 Poles and other incomers, of which very few ,if any, have shown interest in engaging in Gaelic language and culture. Those people moving to a Gaelic speaking area have an obligation to learn the language otherwise they contribute to it's death.

  • Nor will the politicians advertise the fact that there are more Urdu - and possibly Mandarin- than Gaidhlig speakers. Whilst Gaidhlig struggles to survive these languages are booming. When Gaelic dies we die as a separate cultural entity.

  • Globalisation and open borders - and the refusal of the incomer to learn the language- spells the end for Scots Gaelic, unfortunately. Nollaig chridheil agus bliadhna mhath ùr

  • @xxjoker777xx my father is from Alba, it is great to see you taking an interest in your heritage! I've been studying for about 6 years, my trips back to Scotland have helped me the most, talking with the locals is the best practice! Fortan leat! (Good luck)

  • I think a written system must match it's spoken language.

When English was first put into written form, it was a mess because the presses insisted on employing Latin and other outlandish spelling and grammatical conventions. This complicated English unnecessarily and made it more difficult to learn. Spanish, by comparison, is written much closer to its spoken form, and so is easier to learn and read.

Those who invented Gaelic's written form clearly had no interest in facilitating its use!

  • @abinashi1

So you want a language system thats been around since the 12th century to be redesigned just for your own ease of learning?

Whats the point of making a language easy to learn, if you cant push yourself to overcome the challenge then dont try.

If you want everything fed to you in life thats easy then you may aswell just curl up into a fetal position and wait for death.

  • @benledi62 No you don't. You don't understand the essence of the song. It can be directed towards different peoples/etc (depending on your outlook); but no, please shut up.

  • My Gran spoke Scots Gaelic, yet all I remember are some songs. I've tried to learn it, but I think they've deliberately butchered it's written system - It is impossible! You have strings of letters denoting basic elementary sounds. Why make it so clumsy? The written system needs to be re-designed. The present system only discourages those willing to learn.
