The first time I heard this I thought the "why settle for just a piece of sky" note was the one everyone was talking about. I was like "wow that was impressive!" ...then came the real "papa watch me flyyyyyy" note and I was out of breath FOR her. Amazing!

the movie is a wonderful family movie because what you've just mentioned is the entire theme of the entire film: well worth getting the DVD--I'm sure it's available online somewhere for not much cost. Trust me, every song on it is delicious and all of the actors are wonderful: Mandy Patinkin, Amy Irving, Barbra...goodness, it's a MUST see!

Those of us who grew up listening to her sing on the radio--watching her on television, seeing her movies, couldn't HELP but love her. She's absolutely THE most brilliant singer and actress--THE voice of our generation--and for 5 decades..who can top that? Those who condemn her for her politics are small and petty people who have no idea of her brilliance. She created magic and perfection in her movies and so much of her music.

Silly comment, sorry. You miss the entire point of the movie, in that Yentl, a girl--masquerading as a boy throughout, is NOW in her own female personna striding through the boat, which in and of itSELF is unusual for its day and time when women had no voice!--so it would DEFINITELY bring looks and stares for a young woman first to be traveling alone, and secondly to be expressing herself (forget the song, just her speaking aloud) in that day and time. Don't you know ANYthing about history?
