i unicycled over Pontcycyllte to impress my future wife.A grand place.There is a plug in the middle of the tray and they periodically let all the water out to clean it.

Boats cross in convoys; there is room for several to wait until the bridge is clear.
There's no rail on the water side because the risk of breaking your wrist in the uprights is much greater than that of falling off the boat. The aqueduct is 126ft 8in high from the flat riverbed at the south bank to the top of the trough.
The holes in the flange helped lift the segments into position during construction. For economy, the same set of moulds was used for both sides.
