Highlights from the Hawaii State Legislature House Committee on Health addressing Medical Marijuana on August 25, 2008.

Hawaii State Representative John Mizuno, Vice Chair of the Health Committee, and Hawaii State Representative Joe Bertram III from Maui moderate this meeting discussing the recent veto of HB2675 and exploring distribution alternatives for medicinal marijuana patients.

Testifiers include Brian Murphy and The FarmAssist from Patients Without Time, a medical marijuana support and advocacy group based on Maui.

Patients Without Time (PWT) is a medical cannabis support and informational network. We share information concerning Hawai'i medicinal cannabis / marijuana laws and practices. Partnered with Maui County Citizens For Democracy In Action (MCCFDIA), PWT has mounted an extensive campaign on both the County and State levels to better provide for the medical cannabis / marijuana patients in Hawaii.

Maui County Citizens For Democracy In Action (MCCFDIA) is in the midst of the largest citizen's voter registration drive ever seen on Maui. Serving Maui's advocacy groups like Patients Without Time (PWT) and Citizens Action Now (CAN), MCCFDIA emphasizes the need to utilize the Democratic Process to enact the changes our people need. Hawai'i State Representative Joe Bertram III has graciously lent his support and services in our efforts to help our citizens use this Democratic Process.

  • "cannabis" by any other name will get you high just the same. lol

  • From ancient times cannabis has been a medicine. Medical history makes this very clear. I dont feel the need to add the word medical to it. We dont call other medicine medical whatever. It sounds ridicules to say medical aspirin. I feel we should all simply call cannabis what it is cannabis or cannabis sativa. I feel no obligation to say medical marijuana to help ignorant people know what I am talking about when referencing my medicine.

  • your right live above the ignorance

  • i am not real sure but i think some people use it recreationally, hence the medical distinction.

  • Blame Canada! Blame Canada! J/K i'm medicated.

  • If they dont know what I am talking about when I say cannabis they can ask me or look it up in the dictionary. If they ask me I will tell them it is an amazing plant that has helped people with many different medical problems for thousands of years.

Let's just call it by its scientific name, CANNABIS.

  • I disagree.

What needs to change is the employees we the people HIRE to administrate our wishes thinking they have some mandate to micromanage our personal lives.

We can call it Ganja, and it's still none of their business

to support organized crime, to persecute nonviolent citizens, and to determine what we the people may and may not use for our health.

    State hearings, forsooth.

    Personal liberty!

BTW, I am a substance abuse counsellor and hold a licence to produce marihuana in Canada.
